Sakeenaty takes your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights. By using our platform, you consent to the practices described here.

What We Collect

Account information: name, email, date of birth, gender, and country.
Profile data: biographical details, preferences, and answers to profile and platform questions.
Communication data: messages, call logs, and typing indicators exchanged on the platform.
Verification media: if you complete verification via self-recording, the short identity video you (or, for sisters, her Wali) record. If you complete verification via a live call, the call recording captured during that session. Both are reviewed by our team to confirm identity.
Two-factor secrets: if you enable 2FA, an encrypted TOTP secret and one-time backup codes.
Usage data:login times, pages visited, your device timezone (used to show each chat party's local time), and general interaction patterns.
Payment data: subscription status and billing history. Card details are handled entirely by Stripe and never stored on our servers.

How We Use Your Data

To create and display your profile to eligible users (gender-segregated).
To facilitate matches, conversations, and communication.
To verify your identity and maintain platform safety.
To run automated content checks on profiles using AI moderation services (see Service Providers below).
To process payments and manage subscriptions.
To send transactional emails (verification codes, match notifications).
To improve the platform through aggregated, anonymized analytics.

Wali Access

If you are a female user, your designated Wali (guardian) will have read access to all conversations between you and potential matches. This is a core feature of Sakeenaty, rooted in Islamic principles of guardianship. Walis sign in to their dashboard with their email address and access only the conversations and verification calls of the sister who designated them.

Data Sharing

We do not sell your data. We share information only in these limited cases:

With other users: your profile is visible to users of the opposite gender who are browsing the platform.
With service providers: we use trusted third parties to operate the platform — Stripe (payments), Anthropic and OpenAI (AI content moderation of profile text), Bunny Stream (verification video storage and playback), Daily.co (voice and video calls), DeepL (optional profile translation), and infrastructure, email, and analytics providers. We share only the minimum data each provider needs to perform its function.
When required by law: we may disclose data if legally compelled by a valid court order or government request.

Data Storage & Security

Profile and account data is stored on Convex. Verification videos are stored on Bunny Stream with short-lived signed playback URLs that expire automatically. Card details are handled entirely by Stripe and never reach our servers. We use encryption in transit (TLS) and follow industry best practices, but no system is 100% secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your Rights

Access: you can view all the data we hold about you from your profile and dashboard.
Correction: you can update your profile information at any time.
Deletion: you can delete your account at any time. We remove your profile from search and discovery, withdraw pending requests, end active matches, close conversations, and revoke pending promotional entitlements. Limited records (e.g., billing history for tax/legal compliance) may be retained as required by law.

Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. Analytics, if enabled, use privacy-respecting tools with no cross-site tracking.

Children

Sakeenaty is not intended for anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If we discover an underage account, it will be removed immediately.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of Sakeenaty after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
